A ROYAL OIL
Produced by a literal nobleman who lives in a genuine castle, this first-press green gold is a perfect oil to have on hand should you find yourself hosting a coronation. You never know, you might.
The Marques de Valdueza lives on his ancestral family estate, Perales de Miraflores, which means “pearls from the flower view,” which is near Merida. As you might expect, the estate is nestled in the rolling high hills where rows of silver leafed olive trees share space with blossoms and ancient ruins. This area was the location of one of the farthest provinces of the Ancient Roman Empire, chosen because its soil was so suited to the cultivation of grape vines and olive trees.
The Marques makes this particular oil for his personal use, but has begun bottling very small batches for sale to a lucky few. Made from the rare Morsica olive varietal, the olives are pressed within an hour of being picked. This Spanish blend is delicate, rich and smooth with hints of nutmeg and persimmon. Best enjoyed unadulterated, pair this oil with warm sourdough or baguette, while watching Coronation Street. We hear it’s getting pretty intense.
